Managing Life’s Expectations

“Finding Confidence in Your Unique Path”

Just in the last couple of months, I’ve met the most interesting people, and their stories are very inspiring and gutsy, to say the least. Bold to the bone and ready to make a mark in the future.

They’re willing to share, innovate, and grow in ways that make me feel there is hope. I can’t say it enough, and yet I’m saying it here again in a blog post about the importance of being around people who have the same energy and passion for life as yourself.

This makes me instantly smile 😊 Looking not at themselves but at the face of reality is a great thing, unafraid of what others think.

That’s bold, man!! I used to be the person who concerned myself with others’ opinions on what I should do, how I should build my business, and how to make my life better. It was a true inner acceptance of what I wanted and desperately needed to achieve.

Looking back, I never liked being tall. Now, I strut my 5’11” frame into a room and say “Hello,” accompanied by a smile 😊. Finding my voice and not knowing I had a powerful gift to inspire hope and happiness was an awakening that came to life.

Managing life’s expectations is tough because it’s in your face every single day:

• Social media
• Fashion
• Business colleagues
• Conversations
It’s everywhere!!

Let’s keep it real here—each and every one of us is individually created and has a unique set of values—”gifts,” in Joy’s words—that are incredibly special and meaningful.

Respecting others’ thoughts, ideas and feelings is something that we all need to do. Back the heck up and allow others to breathe, smile and be themselves.

Listening is an art

Listening is an art—one of my rare gifts—and I treasure it. But when someone is forcing their expectations on others, you know something’s off—“shut up!!”

By doing that, you’re crushing a person’s ability to think and act upon their own words and actions. The most fascinating people in this world are the ones who think outside the bubble and live up to their own expectations!!

Hey, I was walking with my family one evening in Toronto after enjoying a fabulous dinner. I was searching for a topic to start my Woman to Woman series this Fall of 2024. So, I asked my son’s girlfriend, “What is the biggest concern for women today?” She immediately shared, with no hesitation whatsoever—honesty and sincerity … love it!!

I replied, “Text me what you just said right now,” and she did.

I remembered that our legs and feet were so tired, but I knew that I had to build a workshop around this very important topic ⬇️:

“Learning how to manage society’s expectations of you with the expectations you set for yourself.”

We women do it to ourselves, you know. Every day, we open our mouths, and what’s scary about this is that we share it with others as well. Comparing everything is the most destructive thing we can do to our own lives. Who cares what others think about you? Think about it!

Be you, live out your dreams, and live up to your potential and your own expectations!!

And on that note: Listen, Learn, and Apply.
